Attorney Frank Kerney Represents Uber Driver

Frank Kerny of Taracks & Associates offered to represent Daryl Rodgers, a retired U.S. Army reserve member who drives for Uber and Lyft, after learning that he was ticketed for doing his job. Rodgers was issued tickets totaling more than $700 from the Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission because they say rid sharing services like Uber and Lyft operate outside of the law.

Attorney Frank Kerney said that he recently used Rodgers to get a ride after a Bucs game. When he learned about the tickets, he offered to represent the Army Vet for free. Rodgers said that he took the job as a driver to earn some extra income. His wife has medical bills to pay, and they aren’t cheap.

The transportation department believes these ride sharing services to be illegal because they do not have to comply with state insurance requirements, vehicle inspections, and background checks that taxi services and drivers do.

When interviewed, Kerney said, “Here it seems that this regulation is not anything that is going to be benefiting the public, but rather politically motivated to stop a better service from coming in and taking business away.”
