Palm Harbor Man Charged with Animal Cruelty

A Palm Harbor man was arrested last night after six of twelve pets he owned died, PCSO officials say. Michael Waite, 39, was charged with one felony count of animal cruelty. Waite was supposed to be watching three birds, two dogs, and seven cats including five kittens. Two of the birds died and were found in the trash; the last bird died in vet’s care. The vet cited starvation as the cause of death. Additionally, two of the kittens died after they were eaten by their mother. Waite allegedly told authorities that he could not afford to care for the animals properly.

With the economy in turmoil, many pet owners are finding themselves with tough choices related to pet care.
