New Port Richey Police to Issue Tickets for Jaywalking on US 19

The New Port Richey police department announced today that it will begin issuing tickets for jaywalking outside of designated crosswalks on US 19. Those who are caught jaywalking will be issued a $62.50 ticket. Police say that there have been several traffic accidents related to jaywalking and they hope to make US 19 safer by discouraging crossing outside of the designated areas.

Civil infractions are issued all over the Tampa Bay area for different reasons. For example, Driving While License Suspended (without knowledge), or DWLS, is a civil infraction. Civil infractions also include speeding tickets and many other moving violations. These infractions can carry hefty fines and may result in points on your license – which will lead to higher insurance premiums.
