Highway / Street Racing Citation

Were you recently cited for Racing on the Highway? In Florida, Highway Racing (AKA Street Racing) is a misdemeanor criminal offense that carries some fairly harsh penalties, including a mandatory one year license suspension. When you are first cited for this offense, you are given ten (10) days to schedule a court date. This first date is your arraignment, where the Court requires you to formally enter your plea in the case. If you plea no contest or guilty, you run the risk of having your license automatically suspended for one year plus fines and court costs. If you plea not guilty, you have the opportunity to fight the charge against you.

An experienced Tampa traffic ticket attorney will know how to fight this particular charge. In many instances, a lawyer will be able to look for “holes” in your case that will lead to a dismissal of the charges or a reduction to a lesser charge that does not carry an automatic license suspension. Additionally, in many counties (including Hillsborough) a lawyer may be able to waive your appearance at pre-trial court hearings, helping you to avoid having to take time off from work or school.
