2 Killed at Escambia County Jail Explosion

PENSACOLA, FLORIDA – Two people were killed and dozens more were injured last night in an apparent gas explosion at the Escambia County Jail.

The blast required the Jail to evacuate approximately 600 inmates. It is believed that over 100 people were injured in the blast. As of this morning, two inmates were still missing, with two others confirmed dead.

Authorities believe that this accident was caused by a gas leak. Approximately 90 minutes prior to the explosion visitors had complained of a strong odor of gas. At the time, law enforcement officers believed the smell was coming from generators being used to cope with recent power outages.

We will keep you posted with any updates as to the status of the missing inmates.
