Florida is known for having many "transplant" residents (people who have moved here from another state.) With our great weather, beautiful beaches, and no state income tax, this is a favorable place for people to retire to or "start over."
Often times, people move here and want to get a divorce for one reason or another. However, there is a residency requirement to get divorced in the Sunshine State.
In order to get divorced in Florida, you must have lived in the State for six (6) months prior to filing your petition. This six month requirement can be proved by either 1) showing a valid Florida driver's license with an issue date six months prior to the filing date or 2) by having someone you know complete an affidavit indicating that he or she has known you to be a resident of Florida for at least six (6) months prior to filing.
