Hand Sanitizer May Create False Positive in Alcohol Test! Tampa Criminal Defense News

A new study out of the University of Florida says that frequent use of hand sanitizer may create false-positives in alcohol tests. Dr. Gary Reisfield was inspired to do the study after coming in contact with persons who failed an alcohol test but denied alcohol consumption. The study shows that normal use of sanitizer - a few times a day - will not create a false positive; however those who are exposed to it all day long (doctors, for example) may be at a higher risk of having alcohol absorbed through the skin, creating a false positive on tests. The study shows that other hidden sources of alcohol are out there as well, including mouthwash and certain cosmetics.
